International Choir Competition of Sacred Music

Competition rules
- Only non-professional choirs can sign up for the competition, though the conductor can be a professional.
- The competition is held in a 4 single category.
- mixed choirs
- male choirs
- female choirs
- children choirs
- If fewer applications are received, categories may be fused into 1 category.
- There is no limit to the number of members to a choir entering the competition.
- The competition performance of each choir shall not exceed 20 minutes, including the choir's entrance and exit.
- Within this time limit each choir will perform up a capella pieces, of which 2 will have their origin in Christian (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox) and Judaic sacred music, in versions for choral performance.
- A choir's prepared programme for the performance must be approved by the festival's steering committee in advance.
The jury
- The international jury judges performances according to the quality of the choirs' interpretations, originality of their selection of pieces and their stylistic authenticity.
- Each jury member provides a written statement of his or her personal opinion regarding the competition's performances. Jury members consist of distinct figures in the art world and their comments can therefore vary in the details.
- The grouping of choirs (gold, silver, bronze) and determining of a group's winner and the festival's overall winner is then the result of a joint decision of the entire jury.
- The competition jury's decision is final and it remains a secret until the results are announced.
- The jury will group the choirs as follows according to the quality of the performance given during the competition:
- gold - excellent performance
- silver - very good performance
- bronze - good performance
- The jury can also bestow the following special awards
- special award for choice of programme for competition
- special award for interpretation of piece created after 1950
- special award for excellent conducting
Competition awards
- All participants shall obtain a certificate.
- The choir receiving the highest score from the jury (festival winner) will receive a victory cup and monetary bonus.
